Galapagos 1953
In 1953 Thor Heyerdahl organised archaeological excavations in the Galapagos Islands in order to search for evidence of ancient South American mariners sailing out into the Pacific Ocean.
Despite the fact that the excavations uncovered South American pottery shards, indicating that ancient mariners occasionally visited these islands, this is the least well known of Heyerdahl’s expeditions.
The Kon-Tiki Museum collection of pictures from this expedition consist of both negatives and positives black-and-white and color pictures.
