Thor Heyerdahl's Collections
Pictures have always been a vital part of Thor Heyerdahl’s way of communicating his research since the first publication of the Kon-Tiki voyage in Life in 1947. With the Aku-Aku expedition to Easter Island Heyerdahl began to employ
professional photographers in order to document his work and research and the number of photographs increased substantially.
Thor Heyerdahl transferred his photographic collections to The Kon-Tiki Museum in 1983. These collections span his whole working life from 1937 to 2002. Reasonable complete collections exists from the Kon-Tiki Expedition in 1947 to
the Tigris Expedition in 1978.
