| In 1970, Thor Heyerdahl and his international crew crossed the Atlantic Ocean on the reed boat RA II. They had tried the year before but had to abandon the attempt due to a construction error. With his expedition in 1970, Thor Heyerdahl showed through experimental maritime archaeology that a similar voyage could have been made long before Columbus.
