In summer 2026, we opened a brand-new exhibition surrounding and beneath the iconic Kon-Tiki raft.
Now you can get closer to the story than ever before, and experience the expedition in a whole new way.
Above the raft, the sky transforms from bright, sunny days to dramatic storms and a sparkling starry night.
You can almost feel what it was like to cross the Pacific, just as Thor Heyerdahl and his crew experienced it.
Easter Island has also been given a brand new exhibition,
and throughout the museum you’ll find interactive stations that bring the stories to life for both children and adults.
With our free audio guide, you can listen to fascinating stories and discover even more about the expedition.
There is plenty to explore, experience and learn – for the whole family.

Are the original Kon-Tiki and Ra vessels on display at the museum?
Yes! At the Kon-Tiki Museum, you can see the original Kon-Tiki raft that Thor Heyerdahl and his crew sailed across the Pacific Ocean in 1947. You can also see the Ra II reed boat, which Heyerdahl and his crew used during their expedition across the Atlantic Ocean in 1970.
Is the Kon-Tiki Museum about archaeology?
The Kon-Tiki Museum explores expeditions, archaeological excavations and Thor Heyerdahl’s theories about early seafarers and contact between different cultures. The museum also covers topics related to archaeology, anthropology, cultural history and scientific exploration.
How much time should we allow for a visit to the museum?
We recommend allowing approximately one hour for your visit. The time you spend will depend on your interest in the exhibitions and how much you wish to explore. If you are visiting with children, you may want to allow some extra time for activities and the quiz.

Our standard admission prices are:

Groups of at least 10 people: NOK 130 per person
We also offer combination tickets with the Fram Museum and the Norwegian Maritime Museum, with a 10% discount. Please check the museum’s ticket information for current prices and terms and conditions.
Can we enter for free with the Oslo Pass?
Yes! Admission to the Kon-Tiki Museum is included with the Oslo Pass. Simply show or register your pass at the ticket desk upon arrival.
Can we bring a dog into the museum?
Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted inside the museum, out of consideration for visitors with allergies and the comfort of other guests.
Do groups need to book their visit in advance?
No, groups do not need to book in advance. However, if you would like a guided tour, we recommend contacting us to arrange a suitable time.
Can we bring our own guide?
Yes, you are welcome to visit the museum with your own guide, who can show your group around the exhibitions.
Do you offer Tax Free refunds in the museum shop?
Yes, we provide Tax Free forms for international visitors. The minimum purchase amount in the museum shop is NOK 315. Please ask our shop staff for assistance with the process.
What cafés and restaurants are near the Kon-Tiki Museum?
There is a café across the street serving light refreshments. About a 10-minute walk up the road, near the Fredriksborg bus stop, you will find Bygdøy Vertshus, which serves traditional Norwegian food and is open all year round.
In summer, you can take a short boat ride from Bygdøynes to the legendary maritime restaurant Lille Herbern.
Is the Kon-Tiki Museum accessible to wheelchair users and visitors with pushchairs?
Yes, the museum has ramps to help visitors move around the museum.
How do we get to the Kon-Tiki Museum from central Oslo?
The Kon-Tiki Museum is located at Bygdøynes on the Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo. There are several ways to get here:
By bus: Bus 30 runs to Bygdøy. Check the Ruter journey planner for current departures and the nearest bus stop.
By ferry: The Bygdøy ferries from Rådhusbrygga (City Hall Pier) are a pleasant alternative and operate all year round. Check the timetable here: Bygdøy Ferry – Oslo, 10 Minutes to the Museums | Norway Yacht Charter.
By bicycle: Cycling to Bygdøy is a lovely option, and city bikes may be available in the area. Please check availability and locations before setting off.
By car: There is a car park serving all three museums at Bygdøynes. However, parking is relatively expensive and spaces are limited, so we recommend using alternative means of transport, especially during the peak season.

The Kon-Tiki Museum offers tours for groups by appointment and when we have capacity. Companies, organizations or other groups who wish to book a tour during or outside opening hours, please get in touch.
