Thor Heyerdahl (1914–2002) won world fame when he crossed the Pacific in 1947 with the balsa raft Kon-Tiki. Spectacular sailings followed with the reed boats Ra and Tigris.

At the Kon-Tiki Museum you can see original vessels and updated exhibitions about Thor Heyerdahl's expeditions, which include Kon-Tiki, Ra, Tigris, Easter Island, Fatu-Hiva, Tùcume, Galapagos, a 30 meter long cave walk, underwater exhibition with a ten meter long whale shark, Thor Heyerdahl's library, Personen Thor Heyerdahl and Tiki pop culture.

Thor Heyerdahl is one of history's most famous explorers. In 1947 he crossed the Pacific Ocean on the balsa raft Kon-Tiki and four years later he won an Oscar for his documentary film about the expedition. He later carried out similar expeditions with the reed boats Ra, Ra II and Tigris, where he also conveyed a strong commitment to the environment and world peace. Heyerdahl was also responsible for important archaeological excavations in the Galapagos, Easter Island and Túcume. The Kon-Tiki Museum contains objects from Heyerdahl's world-famous expeditions, the original Kon-Tiki raft and the reed boat Ra II.

We are looking forward to unveiling the museum's new children's exhibition, which we have been working on for the past year. The children's exhibition is intended as a playground for the lost children. Where the children can frolic, while being activated and stimulated. The children's exhibition can be found on the lower floor of the Kon-Tiki museum, after the grotto.
