Fresh Wind in the Sails for Kon-Tiki!
The Kon-Tiki Museum is renewing its exhibitions!
After a long period of planning, we’re excited to begin the transformation. During the winter of 2025/2026, the legendary Kon-Tiki raft will get a spectacular new setting — with a vivid ocean and sky that bring to life the feeling of being on board, crossing the Pacific.
New interactive stations will let visitors explore the expedition through both senses and curiosity. Thor Heyerdahl’s courage, vision, and the people behind the journey will be brought to life in new ways.
Beneath the raft, guests will experience the sensation of diving into the rich marine world that surrounded the expedition. The ocean will be brought to life, offering a whole new dimension to the story of the Pacific crossing.
To prepare for these new exhibitions, we will carry out some heavy and noisy construction work, and the museum will unfortunately need to close for a short period: November 17–30, 2025.
We will continue working on the exhibitions throughout the winter, and the plan is that everything will be ready by April 2026. The museum will remain open during this period however, visitor routes may change from time to time. Some temporary exhibitions will be on display while the new ones are being installed. The original Kon-Tiki raft, however, will always be on display!
Our goal is for all our guests to have a great experience, no matter when they visit!
We’ll do everything we can to make your visit exciting and inspiring — in true Thor Heyerdahl spirit.
